The value of independence

We work for you, not for an insurer

Under art. 40 of the Insurance Supervision Act (ISA, LSA/VAG), a non-tied intermediary has a relationship of trust with the policyholder and acts in the policyholder's interest. That is our position — and we accept every consequence of it.

  • No exclusive ties to any insurer: we compare the entire Swiss market.
  • We tell you in writing how and by whom we are remunerated, as art. 45b ISA requires.
  • If your current policy is already the best one, we say so and change nothing.
  • We stay at your side at the moment that really counts: the claim.
  • No cold calls: we contact you only if you ask us to.
  • A single file for the whole family, reviewed once a year.

BS Assicurazioni operates as a non-tied insurance intermediary within the meaning of art. 40 ff. ISA. Its registration number in the public FINMA register is given in the legal notice.

Our method

Four steps, no surprises

The same path for a family arriving from Lisbon and for an SME in Bellinzona: the tools change, the rigour does not.

Listening

A meeting, in person in Ascona or by video call, to understand your family, financial and tax situation.

Analysis

We read your existing policies, identify duplication and gaps, and compare what the market offers.

Proposal

You receive a written file with two or three scenarios, the real costs, and the advantages and limits of each. You decide.

Management

We handle cancellations, applications, claims and the annual review. One number to call.

Partnership

With Due Mila for the health branch

The experience of a long-established Ticino broker, applied to the most sensitive item in the family budget.

In the health branch — basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG) and supplementary insurance (LCA/VVG) — BS Assicurazioni works in partnership with Due Mila, a broker active in the Locarno region since 1998 and today present in Ascona, Lugano and St. Moritz with more than thirty mandating insurers.

For you this means combining the solidity of an established organisation with the availability of a direct contact: BS Assicurazioni remains your personal, multilingual point of reference, while the technical processing of health insurance files draws on our partner's organisation.

  • Annual premium comparison for every member of the household
  • Review of the deductible and of the most suitable insurance model
  • Assistance with cancellations within the statutory deadlines
  • Full compliance with the sector agreement on insurance intermediaries (ASI 3.0)

International families

New arrivals in Ticino have three months — and a thousand questions

Almost one resident in three in Ticino holds a foreign passport. We support international families and professionals from day one, in their own language.

Before and during your arrival

Compulsory health insurance within three months of taking up residence, with retroactive effect from the date of arrival. We handle the registration of the whole household.

Everyday life

Household contents insurance, private liability insurance, legal expenses insurance, an imported vehicle and the conversion of a driving licence: the cover that is standard in Switzerland and unusual elsewhere.

If one day you leave

What happens to your 2nd pillar, your pillar 3a and your policies when you leave Switzerland. We prepare your departure with the same rigour as your arrival.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often

How much does your advice cost?

For private clients our advice is free of charge: we are remunerated by the insurers with which the contract is concluded. Before the contract is signed we tell you the nature and amount of that remuneration, as art. 45b ISA requires.

For corporate mandates we propose, where this is more transparent, an agreed fee instead of commission.

What is the difference between a broker and an insurance agent?

An agent is a tied intermediary: they represent one or a few insurers and act in those insurers' interest. A broker is a non-tied intermediary: they act in the client's interest and can compare the whole market.

The distinction is set out in art. 40 and 41 ISA, and the law prohibits exercising both roles at the same time.

When can I change health insurer?

Basic health insurance (LAMal/KVG) can be cancelled with effect from the end of the calendar year: notice must reach the insurer by 30 November. Supplementary insurance (LCA/VVG) follows different deadlines, often three months before the annual expiry date.

We check the deadlines for you and prepare the cancellations in good time.

I have just moved to Ticino. By when must I take out insurance?

Within three months of taking up residence. If you meet the deadline, cover applies retroactively from your first day of residence; if you miss it, the insurer may apply a premium surcharge.

Cross-border commuters resident in Italy, France, Germany or Austria may apply for an exemption (right of option) within three months of the start of the validity of their permit: the choice binds the entire household.

Which languages do you work in?

Advice, the summary file and the handling of claims take place in Italian, Portuguese and German. In French we handle meetings and day-to-day correspondence; in English we deal with written correspondence and documentation.

This website is published in five languages and summary documents can be drawn up in the language you prefer. Contract documentation, on the other hand, remains in the insurer's official language: we translate it and explain it to you.

What happens in the event of a claim?

We take care of the notification, the dealings with the insurer and the checking of the settlement. If we consider the insurer's position unfounded, we contest it in writing; if the disagreement persists, we accompany you before the Ombudsman of Private Insurance and Suva.

A first meeting with no obligation

Let's talk about your situation
